The author of the exhibits is a famous Cuban painter Yosvany Martinez Perez.
The Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Russian Federation Gerardo Penalver Portal and members of the Association for International Cooperation and the Society for Friendship with Cuba took part in the exhibition opening ceremony.
A series of 30 paintings devoted to the visit was created in the 2000s. The works were painted using various techniques, some of them include natural materials – plants and leaves which create multicolored patchwork. The works by the painter have many times been rewarded with prizes at exhibitions and contests.
The exhibition was supplemented by materials regarding F. Castro’s stay in Leningrad provided by Smolny State Historical and Memorial Museum.

Following the Event, there was a performance by a Cuban Quartet Sabor Latino during which a documentary video of F. Castro’s visit to Leningrad was shown.
The exhibition in Smolny is on till 24 October 2018.
It has been prior displayed on the Russian Federation State Duma and Moscow City Duma premises.
The exhibition was organized at the initiative of the Republic of Cuba Embassy in the Russian Federation with the support of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg.

Fidel Castro’s first visit to the Soviet Union was the longest among his overseas trips. It has laid the basis for friendship between the peoples of the USSR and Cuba.
The program of the trip involved visiting many cities of the Soviet Union including Leningrad. Fidel Castro arrived at our city on 15 May 1963.
During his stay, the Cuban leader visited Elektrosila Plant, Cruiser Aurora and Smolny. The Cuban revolution leader visited V.I. Lenin’s memorial room and made an entry in the book of honorable guests.
