    St. Petersburg and Sudan: the dialogue continues

    The event was timed to the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Russian-Sudanese diplomatic relations. Among the speakers: the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sudan Mr. Kamal Ismail Saeed, the Minister of Minerals of Sudan Mr. Ahmed Sadiq Al-Karuri, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sudan to the Russian Federation Mr. Nadir Yousif Babiker, as well as the representatives of business communities and the representatives of state bodies of Russia and Sudan, dealing with the economic cooperation.

    On 28 September 2016, the East Club of RIA Novosti (Moscow, Zubovsky Blvd, 4) held a seminar on "Sudanese-Russian economic and trade cooperation: opportunities and prospects".

    The seminar was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, the Head of the Department of Foreign Economic Cooperation Arbi Abusaidovich Abubakarov and the Head of the Regional Economic and Trade Cooperation Office Taras Yurievich Ogilko.

    The event was timed to the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Russian-Sudanese diplomatic relations. Among the speakers: the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sudan Mr. Kamal Ismail Saeed, the Minister of Minerals of Sudan Mr. Ahmed Sadiq Al-Karuri, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sudan to the Russian Federation Mr. Nadir Yousif Babiker, as well as the representatives of business communities and the representatives of state bodies of Russia and Sudan, dealing with the economic cooperation.

    The event raised the issues of cooperation in the sphere of exploration and extraction of mineral resources (in particular, they talked about the Russian business's access to 23 oil fields and participation in the gold mining), oil refining, the development of gas fields, construction of gas power plants, solution of the infrastructural and logistical issues of oil and gas transportation (pipelines construction, liquefying of natural gas, liquefied natural gas shipping, construction of terminals, construction of specialized vessels).

    The development of the market of agricultural fertilizers and agriculture as a whole was separately emphasized, it is particularly interesting for St. Petersburg in terms of export opportunities.

    The parties noted that at the moment, despite some political difficulties, investing in Sudanese manufacturing is profitable for Russian business. There are some actions taken to protect the Russian capital and facilitate collaboration in the framework of local laws.

    On the sidelines of the seminar, there was a meeting held with the Minister of Minerals of Sudan
    Mr. Ahmed Sadiq Al-Karuri, with whom the Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Relations of St. Petersburg Evgeny Dmitrievich Grigoriev met during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in 2016.
