    St. Petersburg expands its cooperation with Qatar

    On the sidelines of the session, there were meetings held with the Chairman of the Russian-Qatari Business Council Umar Dzhabrailov, the Deputy Prime Minister of Chechnya Hassan Khakimov (on the picture), as well as the Director of the Russian-Arab Business Council Tatiana Gvilava, during which they discussed the prospects of attracting St. Petersburg companies to Qatar market. 

    The event was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, the Head of the Department of Foreign Economic Cooperation Arbi Abusaidovich Abubakarov and the Head of the Regional Economic and Trade Cooperation Office Taras Yurievich Ogilko.

    When opening the meeting of the Russian-Qatari Business Council, the Vice President of the CCI of Russian Federation Vladimir Padalko noted that currently they observe a warming in bilateral relations: "It is important to continue this trend in the future, so the political component would not be dominant in the development of trade and economic ties between two countries". It was also noted at the meeting that the main legal obstacles for joint business at the moment are overcome.
     

    The Secretary of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Russia Mr. Rashid Majed Al-Suwaidi noted the importance of the development of Russian-Qatari relations: "Due to Russian-Qatari Business Council, relations at the level of the business community began to develop intensively. We would like to consolidate and extend the visits of business circles of both countries to get acquainted with investment opportunities. For example, Government Commission for Foreign Investments has approved the acquisition by Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) of almost 25% of the Pulkovo airport. Up to date, the volume of Qatari investments in Russia is about $ 3 billion, it is planned to raise this amount up to $ 5 billion".
     

    For St. Petersburg, cooperation with Qatar is promising in the sphere of attracting investments in tourism infrastructure, construction of hotel complexes, the participation of St. Petersburg companies in oil and gas projects, logistics, water supply and water treatment, timber supply.
