At the meeting, some suggestions and projects of high priority measures plans for St. Petersburg’s image promoting abroad and in the regions of the Russian Federation were discussed.

A briefing, where representatives of St. Petersburg sector committees, social organizations, scientific community and media took part, was held by St. Petersburg Government member, St. Petersburg Committee for External Relations representative A. V. Prokhorenko.

At the meeting, some suggestions and projects of high priority measures plans for St. Petersburg’s image promoting abroad and in the regions of the Russian Federation were discussed.

Alexandr Vladimirovich Prokhorenko says, ‘Monitoring Russian and foreign media`s publications, we conclude that recognizability of St. Petersburg is still low. In foreign media St. Petersburg is mostly mentioned in the context of federal developments. St. Petersburg is behind most European megapolises in frequency of mentioning. The complex of information on St. Petersburg is being formed chaotically. Of all image advantages of St. Petersburg, foreign media are interested in culture most of all, but the potential of economics, investments and education is still uninvolved and has not been completely unlocked. According to the instructions of St. Petersburg Governor, the Committee for External Relations created a working group aiming to design the general statements of the programme and of the work plan for promoting the city`s positive image. Our goal is to design an integrated state policy in the field of the city’s reputation enhancing in collaboration with sector bodies of St. Petersburg governmental power’.
