On July 4 through 7, 2012 an international piano contest for amateurs “Piano bridges” was run in the concert hall of the Museum-Estate of G.R.Derzhavin in St.Petersburg.
The competition attracted 40 amateur pianists from 12 countries (China, Ecuador, Latvia, Mexico, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Ukraine, USA).
Amateur pianists are the representatives of various professions for which playing the piano is a serious hobby, not a trade.
The jury was composed of Grigory Korchmar, Chairman of the Composers’ Union of St.Petersburg, and pianists Oleg Weinstein, Sergey Uryvaev, and Galina Minsker.
U.S. representative Luis Dalaveris (medical doctor, BA, Columbia University, MD, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine) became the prize winner in the nomination “No special education”. In the nomination for participants who majored secondary or higher education in piano, but did not pursue a professional activity in this area, the first prize was shared by the representative of Spain Abel Sanchez-Aguilera (Senior Research Fellow of the National Research Center for Cardiovascular Diseases in Madrid ) and citizen of China Ye Feng (seller of equipment for home theatres).
The contest was organized by the Foundation for Support of Cultural Initiatives “Tradition” with the assistance of the organizing committee of the «Les Amateurs!» International piano festival (France).
