A.V.Prohorenko, Member of St.Petersburg Government, Chairman of St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations, addressed the participants of the festival “Slavonic Light”:
Such events meet the most important cultural and spiritual challenge to consolidate the Russian world, to maintain ethnic and cultural identity of our compatriots. St.Petersburg has a special historical mission to unite the Russian world, the development of Russian culture. Northern Capital pays great attention to the expansion of cooperation with compatriots abroad, particularly in Estonia, in the framework of the Program of St.Petersburg Government “Compatriots”. Representatives of the Russian-speaking community in Estonia are actively involved in activities on a wide range of areas: education, culture, youth policy, social support, research and information exchange. I am sure that the relationship of Russian compatriots in Estonia and St.Petersburg will continue to grow incrementally, helping to strengthen the ties with their historical homeland.
