    Leaders of St.Petersburg and the German Federal Land of Hessen Held Talks on Cooperation

    On March 2, 2012, S.Yu.Vyazalov, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg, met at Smolny with Dieter Posch, Minister for Economy, Transport, and Regional Development of Hessen (Germany).

    The escorting delegation included the officials of the Ministry for Economy, Transport, and Regional Development, members of the Landtag of Hessen, the leaders of businesses.

    S.Yu.Vyazalov mentioned the many-sided relations with the Northern capital of Russia and Germany, in particular, with the Federal Land of Bavaria and the twin cities Dresden and Hamburg. The activity of German business in our town was observed, as well as the representative examples of bilateral cooperation: participation of the company «Fraport AG» in the project of reconstruction, development, and operation of the airport “Pulkovo”, opening the plant on assembly of buses and trucks “MAN Truck & Bus AG” in the industrial zone “Shushary” in 2012 .

    S.Yu.Vyazalov also expressed his hope that the contacts of St.Petersburg and the Land of Hessen will become permanent and fruitful in the future, and confirmed the readiness of the city to cooperate in various areas.

    The delegation expressed the interest in the pharmaceutical and medical industries of St.Petersburg as the most promising areas of cooperation. During the meeting, S.Yu.Vyazalov expressed the interest of the city in introducing and the use of high-tech medical equipment, expansion of mutually beneficial partnerships with German companies in the area of the development and production of pharmaceuticals, establishing the training and experience exchange between St.Petersburg and the German pharmaceutical and medical institutions, and introduced the policy of development of clusters.

    Dialogue with the authorities and the business of the Federal Land of Hessen will continue.

    The Committee for External Relations is ready to discuss the specific business proposals from the organizations of St.Petersburg interested in developing the cooperation with Hessen.
