    St.Petersburg Delegation Visited Israel

    On October 30 through November 3, 2011, St.Petersburg delegation headed by K.N.Shmelev, Head of Administration of Vyborgskiy District, visited Israel. A delegation consisting of representatives of the Association of Light Industry of St.Petersburg, Vyborgskiy District Administration and St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations visited Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Nazareth Illit.

    On October 30 through November 3, 2011, St.Petersburg delegation headed by K.N.Shmelev, Head of Administration of Vyborgskiy District, visited Israel. A delegation consisting of representatives of the Association of Light Industry of St.Petersburg, Vyborgskiy District Administration and St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations visited Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Nazareth Illit.

    During the visit, on October 31 the members of the delegation met with S.Gafsou, Mayor of Nazareth Illit, to discuss the future directions of cooperation in the areas of economy and innovation, municipal economy, medicine, pharmacy, science, education, culture, youth policy, sports, and tourism. At the meetings, a protocol was signed following the negotiations about partnership and interaction between Vyborgskiy District of St.Petersburg and Nazareth Illit. The delegation have also visited the Technopark “Tsiporit”, in which there are 28 companies dealing in different areas, including the plant that produces high-precision control and measurement equipment, the manufacturer of components for the automotive industry, pharmaceutical concern, and a factory for glass production. Negotiations were held with the management of the production association “Ham-Let” – the largest Israeli manufacturer of precision test equipment for mining and aerospace industries, transport, food industry, biotechnology industry; the company “RH Technologies”, producing electronic equipment for various industries, telecommunications, security, and medicine,; as well as a major concern “Strauss-Illit”. An agreement was reached on the participation of companies of Technopark “Tsiporit” in St.Petersburg International Innovation Forum. Enterprise “RH Technologies” is considering its participation as a resident in Special Economic Zone of St.Petersburg.

    On November 1, St.Petersburg delegation held talks with J.Strayem, Vice Mayor of partner city of Haifa, during which the priority areas for development cooperation in economy, culture, youth policy and education were identified. Representatives of the delegation also visited the medical center “Rambam” and familiarized with the organization of operation and innovative medical technologies at one of the most modern medical centers in Israel. The programme of events in Haifa and Nazareth Illit was prepared with the support of the IBC of St.Petersburg in Haifa and the Russian Consulate General in Haifa.

    On November 1, the artist Shemyakin met with creative youth of Israel at the Academy of Design “Shenkar”, which is one of the largest Israeli universities to prepare designers and specialists in the area of textiles and clothing. The representatives of the Association of Light Industry of Saint-Petersburg held talks with the leadership of the Institute for Export Promotion and the Union of Manufacturers of Israel, during which, in particular, the establishment of a trade house “Made in St.Petersburg” was discussed.

    On November 2, the exhibition “Sketches for the St.Petersburg Ballet Theatre – Hoffmanniana” by Shemyakin was opened at the Israeli Opera – Center for the Performing Arts in Tel Aviv, with the support of the Committee for External Relations and Mayor of Tel Aviv. The ceremony was attended by R. Huldai, Mayor of Tel Aviv, and representatives of the Russian Embassy in Israel, Russian Consulate General in Haifa, Russian Cultural Centre, the cultural community and the Russian-language media of Israel.
