    President of Laos Visited St.Petersburg

    On October 15, 2011, Georgiy Poltavchenko, Governor of St.Petersburg, had at Smolny a conversation with Choummaly Sayasone, President of Lao People’s Democratic Republic, who visited St.Petersburg during his trip to Russia by the invitation of Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev.

    The sides discussed the issues related to the development of cooperation in a wide range of areas of mutual interest.

    According to Georgiy Poltavchenko, “the friendship between our nations has a strong historical tradition, and it is able bring real benefits”. St.Petersburg is ready for full development of partnerships with Laos, especially in such promising areas as engineering, power industry, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing the processing and mining equipment.
    St.Petersburg Governor stressed the interest in the establishment of tourist exchange between the parties and expressed his intention to send in Laos a working group to develop specific strategic directions of bilateral cooperation, as well as proposed “The Evening of Petersburg Culture” to be held in the Capital City of Vientiane.

    President of Laos fully apprreciated all the proposals of St.Petersburg side, noting the need to develop the cooperation with the St.Petersburg partners, and invited Georgiy Poltavchenko to visit Vientiane in 2012.
