    Delegation of St.Petersburg Visited Yerevan

    On April 18 through 20, 2011, Yerevan (Armenia) hosted the first Russian-Armenian Forum “To the New Achievements of Interregional Cooperation in Russian-Armenian Alliance Relationship” (hereinafter, Forum), as well as the Russian-Armenian Interregional Exhibition of Industrial Innovation (hereinafter, Exhibition).

    On April 18 through 20, 2011, Yerevan (Armenia) hosted the first Russian-Armenian Forum “To the New Achievements of Interregional Cooperation in Russian-Armenian Alliance Relationship” (hereinafter, Forum), as well as the Russian-Armenian Interregional Exhibition of Industrial Innovation (hereinafter, Exhibition).

    Forum was organized by the Federal Agency for CIS, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo), with the assistance of the Russian Presidential Administration and Ministry of Regional Development of the Russian Federation.

    To participate in the Forum and Exhibition, a delegation from St.Petersburg visited Yerevan/ The delegetion included the representatives of the executive authorities of St.Petersburg and the city high schools, as well as the leadership of St.Petersburg Chamber of Commerce. The delegation was headed by I.M. Metelskiy, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg.

    Members of the delegation attended the plenary session, as well as roundtables on the development of economic infrastructure of inter-regional ties and inter-regional cooperation in tourism development.

    St.Petersburg was also represented at the Exhibition: the booth of our city provided information on contemporary urban projects in various fields, as well as on the opportunities of cooperation between St.Petersburg and Armenia. St.Petersburg booth attracted the great interest of the participants.

    During the visit, I.M. Metelskiy, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg, also met with A.S. Pogosyan, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, and K.V. Karapetyan, Mayor of Yerevan.

    At the meeting with the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, the possibility of running the Days of Culture of St.Petersburg in Yerevan was discussed, as well as the issues related to sharing the experience in the area of restoration business and the support for Yerevan in 2012 under the common project of the CIS countries “Cultural Capital”.

    At a meeting with K.V. Karapetyan, Mayor of Yerevan, the questions were raised how to expand the existing ties of St.Petersburg with Armenia and Yerevan.
    According to I.M. Metelskiy, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg, the Republic of Armenia is one of the most stable trading partners of St.Petersburg among the CIS countries, and currently there are all the prerequisites for increasing the trade volume between the cities.

    On behalf of Governor of St.Petersburg, Mayor of Yerevan was handed an invitation to visit our city for signing the program of trade-economic, scientific-technical, and humanitarian cooperation between St.Petersburg and Yerevan for 2011–2014.
    The program was developed within the confines of the existing agreement on cooperation between St.Petersburg and Yerevan, and contains specific objectives of cooperation between these cities, such as the creation of the St.Petersburg Trade House “Yerevan”, hotel “Yerevan”, the organization of annual visits of the experts in urban economy, tourism, science, education, social services etc. to exchange experiences and create the prospective joint projects, to run round tables on business and humanities topics.

    K.V. Karapetyan highlighted the willingness of the Yerevan Municipality to establish a broader communications with our city and confirmed the readiness to further work on developing the cooperation.
