On December 12, 2018 in Moscow, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg Vyacheslav Kalganov held talks with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda in the Russian Federation Johnson Agara Olva. The participants discussed the continuation of the Memorandum of understanding signed between the Ministry of water resources and environment of the Republic of Uganda and SUE "Vodokanal of St. Petersburg" in September 2018 in the capital of the African country Kampala, as well as further prospects for the development of relations of the Northern capital with this African country.
Vyacheslav Kalganov confirmed that "Vodokanal of St. Petersburg" is ready to accept technical personnel from the Ministry of water resources and environment, as well as other interested parties for training in the framework of short-term courses.
For his part, the Ambassador said that a delegation from Uganda, consisting of the leadership of the Ministry of tourism, wildlife and antiquities, representatives of the municipalities of Entebbe, Kampala, Iganga, Jinja, as well as businessmen of the country would visit St. Petersburg in March 2019. During the visit, it is expected to hold a joint business forum with the St. Petersburg Сhamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as negotiations with the leadership of the relevant Executive authorities of the city to discuss areas of cooperation in the fields of trade, tourism, cultural exchange and investment. The leadership of Ugandan municipalities also hopes to explore the prospects of making a partnership agreement with one of the districts of St. Petersburg.
In addition, Mr. Johnson Agar Olva expressed interest in a personal meeting with the acting Governor of St. Petersburg Beglov A.D. and confirmed his desire to take part in the work of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will be held on June 6-8, 2019.
