    Yevgeny Grigoryev greeted the participants on behalf of the Government of St. Petersburg and emphasized that our city is the largest center of international cooperation.

    In developing relations with the Republic of Turkey, E.D. Grigoriev noted, in particular, great potential in the field of culture.

    An interesting fact is who in our city 165 years ago the Faculty of Oriental Languages was created (now the Faculty of Oriental Studies of St. Petersburg State University), which was taught, including the Turkish language. A little later, the Department of Oriental History opened there, which laid the foundation for the emergence of Turkology in Russia. Thus, St. Petersburg can be considered the cradle of the study of Turkish history, culture and language.

    During the V meeting of the Russian-Turkish public forum, attention was paid to various aspects of cooperation between the two countries: museum business, education and science, culture, theater and cinema, tourism, interreligious relations, sports, joint research in the field of history and, of course, the business climate and legal issues .

    Today, July 11, an official opening took place, at which representatives of the Forum’s board, the head of Rossotrudnichestvo Eleonora Mitrofanova and the deputy of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Ahmet Berat Chonkar, as well as the heads of the committees of the Russian-Turkish public forum, spoke.

    A meeting of the business climate section, the youth section and the culture section, as well as the II Rector Forum are scheduled for tomorrow.

    Participants of the ceremony of the V meeting of the Russian-Turkish public forum:
    - Eleanor Mitrofanova - head of Rossotrudnichestvo;
    - Ahmet Berat Chonkar - Member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly;
    - Mehmet Samsar - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to the Russian Federation;
    - Sergey Markov - Secretary General of the Russian-Turkish Public Forum on the Russian side;
    - Ender Arat - Secretary General of the Russian-Turkish Public Forum on the Turkish side;
    - Dmitry Kobitsky - Secretary General - Head of the Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council;
    - Evgeny Grigoriev - Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg.

    For reference:
    In 2010, the heads of Russia and Turkey established the Higher Level Cooperation Council (CELS), a governing body co-chaired by the presidents, developing the “strategy and main directions for developing relations” between Russia and Turkey and coordinating the implementation of important projects of political, trade, economic, cultural and cultural humanitarian cooperation.
    The Russian-Turkish Public Forum (RTFR), which represents civil society organizations, has been created as part of the SPLM.
    Representatives of the academic and business circles, non-governmental, tourist, sports and religious organizations, artists and museum workers participate in the work of the RTFO. Within the framework of the RTFO, 10 committees have been formed in various areas of cooperation, each of which has moderators from the Russian and Turkish sides.
    At present, the RTFOs are represented by: from the Russian part of the Board of the Forum - E. Mitrofanova, Head of Rossotrudnichestvo; with Turkish - Ahmet Berat Chonkar, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey.

    Additionally:
    Cooperation of St. Petersburg with the Republic of Turkey is actively developing in the business sphere. So, Turkish companies participated in the construction and reconstruction of transport, business and hotel infrastructure, including shopping and business centers, factories and hotels.
    The volume of foreign trade between St. Petersburg and Turkey is quite large and stable, but this country is not among the ten largest trading partners of the city. At the end of 2018, our turnover amounted to 1.01 billion US dollars, which corresponds to 13th place in the ranking of the trading partner countries of St. Petersburg.
