On March 15, 2019, the Committee for external relations of St. Petersburg together with the Institute of Ho Chi Minh of St. Petersburg state University held the IX international conference "Eurasian arc of instability and the current situation on its East Asian flank".
In the conference took part the Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao people's Democratic Republic comrade Civiemme Petrasek, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in the Russian Federation, EDI Suharto, Attaché for defense of the Embassy of the Lao people's Democratic Republic Colonel Bunning Panginoong, as well as representatives of the scientific community of St. Petersburg, including professors of Saint Petersburg state University, Higher school of Economics, Saint-Petersburg state economic University.
The current Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov addressed the participants of the conference with a greeting, which was read at the opening of the event by the Chairman of the Committee for external relations of St. Petersburg Evgeny Grigoriev.
"The problems of international security today go beyond state borders, regions and continents. The rapidly growing threats of international terrorism, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and drug trafficking are becoming global.
Only the joint efforts of the international community, a common understanding of their importance, can stop dangerous trends," Alexander Beglov said in his address.
During the conference, issues related to the military-political situation in Southeast Asia, the relationship between the countries of the region and Russia's role in solving global problems and security threats were raised and discussed.
The event was supported by the St. Petersburg chamber of Commerce and industry and personally by the President of the Union "St. Petersburg chamber of Commerce and industry" Yuri Burchakov, the social translation clinic of St. Petersburg state University and its head Irina Baskakova, as well as the Expert-analytical club under the Committee for external relations of St. Petersburg.
