On 28 September 2018 a three-day visit of the St. Petersburg delegation headed by Vice Governor Vladimir Kirillov is completed in Budapest. As part of the visit, heads of St. Petersburg educational institutions participated in the business program events and learned about experience in organizing EuroSkills European Championship for professional skills that the city on the Neva River is going to host in 2022.

An official reception hosted by the Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko to mark the upcoming 8th European Championship in our city was held at Varkert Bazar Complex the night before.

This special event was attended by WorldSkills Europe President Dita Traidas, WorldSkills Europe Board of Directors members, General Assembly delegates and other honorable guests.

In his speech opening the reception Vice Governor Vladimir Kirillov thanked the WorldSkills Europe representatives for the unanimous choice of St. Petersburg as the venue of the European Championship for professional skills and noted tangible results achieved by Russia in promoting WorldSkills Competition that was joined by our country 6 years ago.

“The decision to hold this Event in our city was adopted unanimously, which attests to substantive recognition of our country’s accomplishments and trust in Russia and St. Petersburg, and it is undoubtedly a matter of pride. I thank the WorldSkills Organization management and all the General Assembly delegates for their outstanding support”, the Vice Governor emphasized.

Vladimir Kirillov pointed out that the Government of St. Petersburg has already commenced preparations for the Competition. He stressed that ensuring close collaboration between employers and educational institutions in equipping work places of the Competition in every expertise is one of the important elements of that work. “We are willing to apply all useful advances and Europe’s and world’s best practices to the full extent preparing and conducting the Championship events in St. Petersburg”, the Vice Governor reported.

He expressed confidence that the Competition would make it possible to attract greater attention to the system of secondary vocational education and to promote trade jobs among the youth, entrepreneurs and managers of industrial enterprises. In addition, he believes that a trip to St. Petersburg would be a good occasion for the Championship participants to explore the culture and values that our city preserves.

The music program of the official reception included performances by leading opera soloists accompanied by Taurida Symphony Orchestra.
