The Square is located in line between Tsitadelskoye Highway and Zosimov Street. Its territory has an access to the Gulf of Finland coastline in the south.
The key feature of the new Square is its seamless integration in the historic development of Kronstadt Fortress listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site: the territory of the Square is divided by a scarp wall of Kronstadt Fortress.
The new public space was designed in close collaboration between St. Petersburg and Korean experts. The total space of the site is 1.8 hectare.
The Square opening ceremony was attended by Head of Kronstadt District of St. Petersburg Oleg Dovganyuk, Consul General of the Republic of Korea in St. Petersburg Kwon Don Sok, members of Incheon Mayor’s Office and the executive branch of the Government of St. Petersburg, deputies of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg and honorary citizens of Kronstadt.
During the ceremony, a “Tree of Friendship” was planted as a symbol of close historical ties between the peoples of Russia and Korea as well as mutually beneficial partnership established between Kronstadt and Incheon.

Agreement on establishing friendly relations between Kronstadt and Incheon was signed in September 2010.
In 2011 Square St. Petersburg was opened with the monument commemorating the feat of the legendary cruiser Varyag and the gunboat Korietz.
Implementation of the project’s second stage is scheduled for 2019: Park Incheon is to be opened in Kronstadt (address: 7 A Gidrostroiteley Str.). The Park is to be designed in traditional Korean style and it will include landscaping, areas for sports activities and for people with disabilities under Accessible Environment project.
