On October 18, 2018, an exhibition dedicated to the Vietnam War was opened at the Military history museum of artillery, engineering and communication troops. The exposition consists of four parts. These are paintings and graphics, photos and documents, personal belongings of the participants of the armed conflict, a gallery of portraits of veterans.
"The help of our soldiers will forever remain in the heart of the Vietnamese people. All the Vietnamese remember what our country has done for them. Our task is to continue our friendship and to tighten links," Vyacheslav Kalganov, Deputy Chairman of the External Affairs Committee of St. Petersburg, said.
The cross - year of Russia in Vietnam and Vietnam in Russia will be held in 2019. As a part of the events planned in its course, The Museum of War victims from Hoshiminh city will bring its exposition to the Northern capital at the beginning of next year.
"The opening of the exhibition dedicated to the Vietnam War is an amazing event. It is a pleasure to address this interesting topic. The main task of the exhibition is to remove the veil of silence that enveloped these events for several decades," Viktor Krylov, director of the Military historical Museum of artillery, engineering and communications troops, said.
The exhibition will run until February 2019.
The Vietnam War became one of the biggest conflicts of the second half of the 20th century and the longest military clash in modern military history. The conflict lasted for about 20 years - from November 1, 1955 to the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975. The victory was won by North Vietnam over the most powerful American superpower and forever entered the history of mankind. At the same time, this War was one of the most classified in the history of the USSR. Information about it began to appear only in the period of perestroika.
The USSR officially acknowledged part in the hostilities of its specialists in air defense. Unofficially representatives of different branches of services contended there.
