    Presentation of the new organization took place on September, 12 in the House of Scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences

    Among the officials, Turkish Ombudsman Şeref Malkoç, Consul General of the Turkish Republic in St. Petersburg Kazim Çavuşoğlu and Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg V.G.Kalganov took part in the event.

    The main goal of its activity is to expand  humanitarian contacts between St. Petersburg and the Turkish Republic by means of instruments of public diplomacy and render assistance in the development of friendly relations with Turkish partners provided to state and public associations. 

    The chairman of the Society is the well-known scientist, turkologist, professional diplomat, professor Alexander Kolesnikov.

    It is expected that with the participation of the Society new courses on Russian language and Russian culture for Turkish citizens residing in St. Petersburg will be opened, as well as lectures for Russians on Turkish history and culture will be organized.

    In addition, concerning the work of the Society, special attention is planned to be given to the activation of tourism exchange, in particular, the implementation of models of orthodox, scientific and intellectual tourism.

    During the presentation ceremony of new public organization, the Consul General of the Turkish Republic in St. Petersburg Kazim Çavuşoğlu noted the special role of St. Petersburg as the cultural center of Russia in strengthening Russian-Turkish relations and expressed hope for further development of bilateral cooperation.
