The delegation also included Jose Esteban Sauri - vascular surgeon, head of the "Heberprot-P" project of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) of Cuba, Marianela Garcia Siverio, the executive director of the Cuban pharmaceutical company "Heber Biotec" and the Embassy attache Libia Odalis Reyes Ricardo.
The purpose of the visit is the continuation of the dialogue on the development of the Petersburg-Cuban cooperation in public health sphere which was begun at the meeting of the Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko with the Ambassador of Cuba to Russia Mr. Emilio R. García Lozada, held on 29 March 2016 in Smolny.
During the visit, the Cuban delegation visited Federal Almazov North-West Medical Research Center. On its site there was a meeting with the specialists of the Institute of Endocrinology, Institute of Experimental Medicine and "Translational Medicine" scientific-educational cluster, exploration of the areas of medical care and the major scientific achievements of the institution, as well as discussion of the prospective cooperation projects.
The delegation also visited Limbs Rescue Center, operating on the basis of the St. Petersburg public health facility "City Hospital #14". The Center's specialists discussed with Cuban guests the use prospects of "Heberprot-P" Cuban medication in our city, which may be part of a comprehensive treatment to struggle the diabetic foot infections.
