    Cultural and Business Mission from St. Petersburg Visited the Republic of Kazakhstan on September 24-25

    The delegation was headed by the Vice Governor of St. Petersburg O.A. Kazanskaya. The delegation also featured representatives of the executive governmental agencies, St. Petersburg universities, members of the city’s business community and cultural figures.

    In Astana O.A. Kazanskaya attended a meeting with M.N. Bocharnikov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation. During the meeting the parties discussed interaction between the universities of St. Petersburg and the Republic of Kazakhstan, cooperation in the pharmaceutical industry, issues pertaining to organizing performances of St. Petersburg creative companies in Kazakhstan as well as the organizational aspects of the joint event commemorating the 55-anniversary of the first human's flight to space to be held in 2016.

    On September 25, a meeting with the Akim (Mayor) of Astana A.R. Dzhaksybekov took place. In the course of the meeting the parties discussed the results of cooperation and outlined the promising areas of further interaction. Special attention was paid to the participation of St. Petersburg in the International Specialized Exhibition “Astana EXPO-2017” and the creation of a Business Cooperation Centre “Astana” in St. Petersburg. As a result of the meeting a new Program of Cooperation between the Administration of St. Petersburg of the Russian Federation and the Akimat (Mayor Administration) of Astana of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2016-2020 is to be elaborated.

    The second session of the Business Cooperation Council between the Administration of St. Petersburg and the Akimat of Astana was also held on September 25. The session featured representatives of the executive governmental agencies and the business communities of St. Petersburg and the Republic of Kazakhstan. During the meeting the implementation of the Protocol of the First Session of the Council was reviewed and the results summarized, a new Protocol containing a specific list of activities designed to facilitate bilateral cooperation was signed.

    A meeting of O.A. Kazanskaya with A.V. Tsoy, Vice-Minister of Healthcare and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, took place on the same day. The parties dwelled upon cooperation in the area of organ transplantology, pharmaceutical science, emergency medical services, etc.

    The mission’s business program included a presentation of St. Petersburg’s potential, thematic round tables (some of the topics: prospects of strengthening and expanding of Russia-Kazakhstan relationships in the area of healthcare, cooperation between St. Petersburg and Kazakhstan in the area of higher professional education and science, development of tourism, Russia-Kazakhstan economic relations in the context of the current integration processes), a business contact exchange and visits to the major enterprises of the region.

    A flower-laying ceremony took place at the monument to the Defenders of the Fatherland as part of the visit.

    The cultural part of the mission’s program constituted a joint concert of the prominent musicians and singers of St. Petersburg and the Republic of Kazakhstan featuring the merited artists of Russia Tatiana Pavlovskaya and Maria Safaryanz.
