    On May 29-30 a delegation from the city of Lahti (Finland) visited St. Petersburg.

    The delegation featured: the mayor of the city Jyrki Myllyvirta, the Chairman of the City Municipal Council Mika Kari, representatives of the departments of culture, environmental protection, educations, and public relations.

    Meetings with I.O. Lonsky, Acting Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, and representatives of the Committee for Nature Use, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety of St. Petersburg took place during the visit.

    Prospects of facilitating interaction of the Lahti Region with St. Petersburg, in particular in the ecological area, issues pertaining to climate change control, the development of power economy, waste management, the promotion of ecological awareness and ecobusiness were discussed at the meetings.

    On May 30 the Grand Hall of the St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonia hosted a concert of the Lahti Symphonic Orchestra. The orchestra performed music pieces by Jean Sibelius under the guidance of Okko Kamu, Head Conductor of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra; a young Russian violin player Sergey Dogadin, winner of the XVI Tchaikovsky Competition 2011, was the solo performer.
