    Delegation of the Greek partner-city Thessaloniki visited St. Petersburg on 19-22 March 2014.

    The delegation consisted of Maria Paschalidou, Vice-Mayor for Youth Policy, Sports and Volunteers, President of “Thessaloniki – European Youth Capital 2014” and Haralampos Papaioannou, the Programme`s coordinator.

    Presentation of the Programme “Thessaloniki – European Youth Capital 2014” was held on March 20th, 2014, in the Youth Home of Vasileostrovsky District. It was organized with the support of the Committee for Youth Policy and Cooperation with Non-Governmental Organizations and the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg.

    Participants: Chairman of the Committee for Youth Policy and Cooperation with Non-Governmental Organizations Alexander Parkhomenko, Consul-General of the Hellenic Republic Teodoros Bizakis and Consul-General of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Demetriou as well as representatives of youth organizations of St. Petersburg.

    According to Maria Paschalidou, St.Petersburg is a good candidate for the European Youth Capital Programme and the City Government should submit a relevant bid to host the Programme in future.

    At the end of the event the participants exchanged their views on the participation format of St.Petersburg youth delegation in the Programme “Thessaloniki – European Youth Capital 2014” in May, as well as on participation of Thessaloniki delegation in “Dobroforum” and the International Youth Forum to be held in St.Petersburg at the end of the year.

    At the meeting with Svetlana Kuzmitskaya, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sport, held on the same day, participation of St.Petersburg athletes in the Alexander the Great Marathon to be held in April in Thessaloniki and participation of Thessaloniki athletes in the White Nights Marathon in St.Petersburg were agreed.

    As part of the program, Thessaloniki representatives have visited St.Petersburg center of youth employment support and vocational guidance “Vector”, St. Petersburg regional branch of All-Russian organization “Disabled war veterans”, Center of social and labor adaptation “Master OK” of the St.Petersburg Association of societies of parents of disabled children “GAOORDI”, the youth organization “Youth. Initiative. Development”. Based on St.Petersburg experience, Vice-Mayor of Thessaloniki suggested to develop a number of joint pilot projects in the area of social adaptation of young disabled people as well as in the area of the promotion of youth employment and vocational guidance.
