    Meeting with delegation of Alexandroupoli (Hellenic Republic)

    A discussion between Sergey Markov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St.Petersburg and delegation of Alexandroupoli was held on March 24th, 2014 in Smolny.

    A discussion between Sergey Markov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St.Petersburg and delegation of Alexandroupoli was held on March 24th, 2014 in Smolny. The delegation consisted of Konstantinos Gabaeridis, Deputy Chairman of the Coordination Council of Compatriots in Greece, Chairman of the Russian Speaking Entrepreneurs Association in Greece and Yulia Gavrilova, Chairman of the Compatriots Community of Alexandroupoli “Russkiy Dom”.

    Participants of the meeting exchanged their views on possible cooperation development between St.Petersburg and Alexandroupoli, including: summer holidays of St.Petersburg schoolchildren in Alexandroupoli children`s holiday camps, taking into account successful experience of the annual enrollment of children from Sosnovy Bor, relations between the Chambers of Commerce of St.Petersburg and Northern Greece, development of tourism, cultural and humanitarian contacts, including experience exchange in the sphere of teaching of Russian and Greek languages.

    Alexandroupoli is situated in the North-East of Greece, in the regional unit of East Macedonia and Thrace. Alexandroupoli is a sister-city of Sosnovy Bor, the Leningrad Region. The population of the city is more than 72 thousand people, 7.5 thousand of whom are Russian speakers.
