    Meeting with the delegation of Tripoli (Hellenic Republic)

    Igor Lonsky, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg had a meeting with the delegation of the Greek city Tripoli (regional unit of Arcadia,  Peloponnese) led by the Mayor John Smirniotis in Smolny on March 6th, 2014.

    Igor Lonsky, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg had a meeting with the delegation of the Greek city Tripoli (regional unit of Arcadia,  Peloponnese) led by the Mayor John Smirniotis in Smolny on March 6th, 2014. The meeting was also attended by the Consul-General of Greece in St. Petersburg Teodoros Bizakis.

    The visit of the Mayor of Tripoli coincided with the exhibition “Tripoli - ambassador of modern Greek civilization. Tribute to Hellas: costumes and sculptures of Nikos Floros” organized in St.Petersburg by the municipality of Tripoli and the Greek Tourism Organization. The exhibition will be held in the Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts from 7 March till 6 April 2014.

    Participants of the meeting exchanged their views on development of relations between St. Petersburg and Greece, as well as on prospects of cooperation between St. Petersburg and Tripoli, taking into account Russia - Greece Bilateral Year of Culture in 2016 and Tripoli`s bid for the 2021 European Capital of Culture Title.

    They also emphasized such cooperation prospects as further development of relations in the sphere of tourism, including pilgrimage (taking into account direct flights by Aegean airlines from St.Petersburg to the Kalamata airport in Peloponnese (60km from Tripoli)), as well as in cultural and humanitarian spheres, education, health care, children`s recreation.
