    Alexander Prokhorenko, Member of St.Petersburg Government, Chairman of the Committee of External Relations of St., met Demetris Demetriou, Consul-General of the Republic of Cyprus in St.Petersburg in Smolny on February 28th, 2014.

    Alexander Prokhorenko pointed out the active work of the Consulate-General of Cyprus in St.Petersburg and expressed satisfaction with the development of established relations between St.Petersburg and Limassol - the partner-city of St.Petersburg in Cyprus. A representative delegation of Limassol is expected to visit St.Petersburg in late April. The delegation will participate in the next round table of the project “Ideas of higher education institutions into the cities` practice”.

    Participants of the meeting exchanged their views on further development of cooperation between St.Petersburg and Cyprus. According to Alexander Prokhorenko, the prospective fields of bilateral cooperation, apart from tourism, include: development of relations in sphere of secondary and higher education, cultural and humanitarian projects, health care.

    Demetris Demetriou informed about the events of the Festival “Cyprus on the Neva banks” that will coincide with the visit of Limassol delegation in April 2014, as well as about the business-forum to be held in St.Petersburg in June (organized by the Chambers of Commerce of St.Petersburg and Cyprus).

    Alexander Prokhorenko noted the importance of cooperation between small and medium-sized businesses of St.Petersburg and Cyprus and recommended to use the platform of the forum “St.Petersburg partneriat of small and medium businesses”.

    Alexander Prokhorenko wished Demetris Demetriou success in his new assignment and confirmed the Committee`s readiness to further assist the Consulate-General in its activities.
