    Her Royal Highness Princess Anne visited St.Petersburg on 13-14 February 2014.

    Her Royal Highness and the Governor of St.Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko participated in the opening of the first line of the factory of the British company “Tensar”.

    Georgy Poltavchenko thanked Her Royal Highness Princess Anne for giving honour to the city by her visit. The Governor of St. Petersburg emphasized the importance of cooperation with the UK for the city and for the country. Georgy Poltavchenko noted that British engineers, architects, builders had been working in the Northern Capital since the moment of its foundation. The British company “Tensar”, the world leader in road construction, continues these traditions. Georgy Poltavchenko assured that that new technologies in civil and road construction were actively supported by St.Petersburg.

    Her Royal Highness Princess Anne and Georgy Poltavchenko visited the factory which would produce geosynthetics for road construction and transport infrastructure, industrial and civil objects.

    The high-tech enterprise was built entirely due to foreign investments. The city provided assistance with the factory`s connection to energy resources. Georgy Poltavchenko noted that St.Petersburg did its best to create comfortable working conditions for such an important and significant investor as the Tensar company.  “We support all investors that come to the city to develop economy and establish mutually beneficial relations”, said the Governor.

    Georgy Poltavchenko wished the Tensar company successful work on the banks of the Neva River. He said that St.Petersburg and the UK have a lot of joint projects ahead, including initiatives as part of the Russia-UK Year of Culture (http://gov.spb.ru/press/governor/44716/).

    During her visit Princess Anne laid a wreath at the Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery and met with the veterans-survivors of the Siege, visited the Krasin ice-breaker where a meeting with veterans of the Arctic convoys was held. As part of her programme the following events were also arranged: meetings with the students and teachers of the Anglo-American school, members of the English Speaking Union and British business community in St.Petersburg. Her Royal Highness also visited the State Hermitage Museum, the Peter and Paul Fortress and the Mint, where the ceremony of the exchange of commemorative coins was organized.
