The parties observed that Canada´s footprint in the city is well-marked both in the economy and in the science and education.

The parties observed that Canada´s footprint in the city is well-marked both in the economy (commerce and investment from Canada are constantly growing) and in the science and education (Canadian universities are expanding their cooperation with the St. Petersburg State University, the National Mineral Resources University (“The Mining University”), the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute).

Taking into account that in 2012 the Quebec Government Office in Moscow was established, the parties came to an agreement on working out the lines of cooperation and elaboration of a detailed “roadmap” for relations between Quebec and St. Petersburg, which date from 2002. This dialogue will be opened in May 2013 as Mayor of Quebec Régis Labeaume will take part in the “Sport-Accord” convention. Mr. A.V. Prokhorenko invited small and medium-sized businesses to consider participation in the Saint-Petersburg Business Contact Exchange (Partneriat) in 2014. What is more, the parties discussed the issue of cooperation in the Arctic region in view of the fact that Canada will chair the Arctic Council in May 2013.

The upcoming events held in St. Petersburg with the participation of Canada are the following:

    - the inauguration of the new stage of the Mariinsky Theatre (May 2013),

    - St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (June 2013),

    - consultations regarding commercial and economic cooperation prior to the G-20 summit.
