    The Lord Speaker of the House of Lords of the British Parliament, Francis D'Souza, visited St. Petersburg

    October 3, the St. Petersburg Governor, Georgy Poltavchenko met at Smolny with the Lord Speaker of the upper chamber of the British Parliament.

    Baroness D'Souza, the Lord Speaker of the House of Lords of the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the Northern Ireland, visited St. Petersburg on October 3-4, 2012.

    During the visit, Mrs. D'Souza met with the Governor of St. Petersburg, G.S. Poltavchenko, where both parties expressed interest in expanding their business and cultural contacts.

    The Lord Speaker supported the Governor’s proposals on the development of a number of priority areas of bilateral cooperation, including public-private partnerships in the fields of energy, construction of social facilities, solid waste treatment, and development of the pharmaceutical and healthcare clusters.

    Baroness D'Souza also met with the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, Vyacheslav Makarov, and the Secretary General of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS, Alexander Sergeev, and gave a speech at the St. Petersburg Humanitarian University of Trade Unions.
