On September 14, 2012, A.V.Prokhorenko, Chairman of St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations, met at Smolny a delegation of the Senate of the U.S. State of California, that represented Sacramento, San Francisco, and San Diego, led by Ellen Corbett, Senate Majority Leader (formerly, Mayor of San Diego). California Senate delegation arrived by the invitation of the Legislative Assembly of St.Petersburg.
During the meeting, A.V.Prokhorenko, Chairman of the Committee, paid attention to history and current socio-economical development of St.Petersburg, the priorities of the city government to address the most pressing issues on the agenda in the areas of economy, protection of the historical heritage, public education and health care, employment and migration policy, and culture. Questions were mentioned about the international activity of St.Petersburg with regard to the links established with the U.S., and about the prospects for cooperation of St.Petersburg and California.
The representatives of the California State Senate expressed their admiration for St.Petersburg, as well as active interest in the development of cooperation between California and St.Petersburg in various areas.
