On August 13, in Smolny there was a conversation of Alexander Prokhorenko, Member of St.Petersburg Government, Chairman of the Committee for External Relations, and Ichiro Kawabata, Consul General of Japan, concerning the end of the diplomatic mission of the latter in St.Petersburg.
The sides expressed their confidence that cooperation between St.Petersburg and Japan had a lot of potential in the cultural and economic areas, as well as a solid foundation for friendly relations, which was fully tested in hard times for the Japanese people after the accident at the nuclear power plant “Fukushima”.
In St.Petersburg, about 50 companies with the Japanese capital are operating.
The Consul General has noted that, despite the recession in the global markets, all the companies continue to work in the city, which indicates a sufficient degree of strength of the St.Petersburg economy.
