    On June 2 through 4, 2012 , Marie Bashir , Governor of New South Wales (Australia), was on a visit to St.Petersburg.

    On June 2 through 4, 2012, Marie Bashir, Governor of New South Wales (Australia), was on a visit to St.Petersburg.
    During the visit, M.Bashir met with I.O.Lonskiy, Deputy Chairman of St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations. At the meeting, the development of bilateral cooperation in business and humanitarian spheres was discussed. Ms. Bashir also visited the Russian Museum and St.Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance.
    Reference: The cooperation of St.Petersburg and Australia is developing steadily. The turnover of foreign trade is growing. The political contacts are being developed. In 2005-2009. Anna Bligh, Prime Minister of Queensland, Alan Carpenter, Prime Minister of Western Australia, visited St.Petersburg.
    The bilateral cooperation in the area of culture is expanding. In August 2012, B.Eyfman Ballet Theatre has scheduled the tours in Sydney and Melbourne, while in November 2012, Sydney is to host an exhibition of the Hermitage “Alexander the Great” at the Australian Museum.
    Universities of St.Petersburg and Australia are collaborating, which involves the St.Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance and University of Queensland, National University of Mineral Resources “Gorny” and the University of Melbourne, as well as Mining School of Western Australia.
    Contacts are put into practice in the line of people's diplomacy. In May and June 2012, a delegation of “Friendship Force”, Australia, visited St.Petersburg.The contacts are strengthening with the partner city of Melbourne, where the Information and Business Center of St.Petersburg is opened.
