On May 15 through 18, 2012, a delegation of Limassol, headed by Andreas Christou, the Mayor, stayed in St.Petersburg.
Limassol was the main guest at the VIII Festival “Cyprus on the Neva Riversides” traditionally held by the Consulate General of Cyprus in St.Petersburg. The delegation arrived by the invitation of the City Government in connection with the mutual preliminary intentions to sign an agreement on cooperation between the cities.
On May 16, 2012, an exhibition “Cyprus through the Eyes of Russian Artists” was opened at a festival in the atrium of State Museum of St.Petersburg History at the Sts Peter and Paul Fortress. The project was organized by a group of companies “Etalon”.
On May 17, V.N.Kichedzhi, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg, met in Smolny with Andreas Christou, Mayor of Limassol, and a cooperation agreement was signed between the Government of St.Petersburg of Russian Federation and the Municipality of Limassol of Republic of Cyprus, which defined the list of priority areas of cooperation between the Government of St.Petersburg, Russian Federation and the Municipality of Limassol Republic of Cyprus during 2012–2017.
In the course of the meeting, the Mayor of Limassol out a motion to receive 100 children from St.Petersburg orphanages for summer holidays.
During the visit of the delegation of Limassol in St.Petersburg, Technological University of Cyprus signed a cooperation agreements with the St.Petersburg State University of Service and Economics, with St.Petersburg State University of Telecommunications named after Professor M.A.Bonch-Bruevich, with the St.Petersburg Institute of Hospitality, as well as with the St.Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics, and Optics,
Further to the meetings of the delegation of Limassol and the Directory Board of State Russian Museum, agreements were reached on the opening an Information and Education Center in Limassol: “The Russian Museum Virtual Affiliation”.
