    A Delegation of British Veterans from Arctic Convoys Visited St.Petersburg

    During the Second World War, the Arctic convoys came from the UK and the USA to the northern ports of the USSR - Arkhangelsk and Murmansk.In total, 78 Arctic convoys, involving 1400 commercial vessels, were piloted between August 1941 and May 1945. The total volume of cargo shipped was worth $ 11.3 billion.

    In 2011, the events devoted to the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the first Arctic convoy “Dervish” in Russia were run in St.Petersburg.

    Visit of the delegation of veterans was organized with the assistance of St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations.
