The history of official relations between the two major port cities of their countries counts only five years, but the relations were fruitful and full of important events anyway.

Today, Qingdao is one of the key partners of St.Petersburg in China, and a major participant of the dialogue partnership of friendly cities in BRICS.

The priority issues of the development of bilateral relations were discussed in Smolny on May 14, during a meeting with A.V.Prokhorenko, Member of St.Petersburg Government and Chairman of St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations.

According to him, St.Petersburg and Qingdao are much similar – not only due to their sea-coastal location, but also by the spirit and the principles that they are implementing in the course of the development. A.V.Prokhorenko also expressed his hope for closer and more effective cooperation with Qingdao in the area of investment, science and technology, culture and education.

At the conversation, the issues of attracting Chinese investors in St.Petersburg were discussed, as well as establishing closer links between the cities concerning the oceanology and participation of St.Petersburg in the Exhibition of Landscape Architecture in Qingdao scheduled for 2014.

During the visit to St.Petersburg, Vice Mayor of Qingdao visited the Oriental Faculty of St.Petersburg State University, St.Petersburg Branch of the Institute of Oceanology named after P.P.Shirshov at Russian Academy of Sciences, and St.Petersburg State Institute of Culture and the Arts.
