On December 14, 2011, the House of Friendship hosted the celebrations to mark the anniversary of the Society of Russia–Japan Friendship.

In 2011, the St.Petersburg branch of the Society of Russia–Japan Friendship celebrated the 50th anniversary since its foundation. The Society plays an important role in the development of relations between St.Petersburg and Japan, supporting and enriching the city’s international cultural relations. Activists of the Society run the joint Russian-Japanese events, inviting Japanese artists, performers, musicians, and artists to St.Petersburg, and are making great efforts to introduce Petersburgers to the Japanese culture. Over the years, the most famous projects among the residents have become Japanese seasons in St. Petersburg, initiated by the Society: the festivals “Japanese Spring” and "Japanese Autumn”.

In this solemn evening, the oldest and most active members of the Society – L.V.Zenina, Chairman Emeritus, V.V.Rybin, Chairman, V.A.Kalinina, teacher of Japanese language awarded by the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun, N.Y.Tsvetkova, Executive Secretary – received the Certificates of Honour on behalf of St.Petersburg Governor G.S.Poltavchenko.

Other members of the Board of the Society who participated in the event were marked by gratitude of the Chairman of Society Committee for External Relations, which was presented by A.Petruk, First Deputy Chairman.
