    The Days of Riga Held in St.Petersburg

    On October 6 and 7, 2011, the Riga Days were held in St.Petersburg, which traditionally involved a number of events concerning the economic, cultural, and humanitarian areas of interaction between St.Petersburg and Riga. The events of the Days of Riga were attended by a delegation of Riga City Council, headed by Andris Ameriks, Vice-Chairman.

    On October 6 and 7, 2011, the Riga Days were held in St.Petersburg, which traditionally involved a number of events concerning the economic, cultural, and humanitarian areas of interaction between St.Petersburg and Riga. The events of the Days of Riga were attended by a delegation of Riga City Council, headed by Andris Ameriks, Vice-Chairman.

    The official delegation of Riga City Council had business meetings with M.E.Oseevskiy, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg, Head of St.Petersburg Governor Administration, and V.S.Yagya, Plenipotentiary Representative of St.Petersburg Legislative Assembly on International Relations, during which the cooperation of two partner cities was analyzed and the new areas of cooperation identified. In particular, it was decided to intensify prospective contacts between the business circles of St.Petersburg and Riga in light of the new economic clusters of urban development.

    On October 7, the House of Architects hosted a scientific and practical conference “Maintenance and Conservation of Monuments in the Urban Environment in Riga and St.Petersburg. Experience and Practice”, at which the participants shared their experiences and had individual meetings and talks on cooperation.

    The extensive program of cultural events included: opening the memorial plaque of J.Vitols, Latvian composer and music educator, founder of the Latvian Conservatoire, at St.Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire; concerts of the best creative teams in Latvia – Latvian National Opera and Symphonic Orchestra “Riga”; opening a number of exhibitions – “Masters of Riga” on applied arts at Russian Ethnographic Museum, “Art Nouveau Architecture in Riga” and “Latvian Glass” at Elaginoostrovsky Palace Museum, and “Riga–St.Petersburg: People, Times, Traditions” at the State Memorial Museum of A.V.Suvorov.

    At the Committee for Culture, the program “Riga – Cultural Capital of Europe 2014” was presented, while the Riga Office for Tourism Development ran a resentation «Live Riga» at the Consulate General of the Republic of Latvia in St.Petersburg.

    At the shopping mall “Land”, the presentation of the Latvian foodstuffs could be visited .

    The events under the “Days of Riga in St.Petersburg” once again confirmed the mutual interest of the parties in cooperation and certaianly identified the new ways of cooperation between our cities in the economic, scientific, and cultural areas.
