    Round table “Bordering Regions: New Forms of Cooperation between Russia and Finland”

    On March 16, 2011, a round table discussion on “Bordering Regions: New Forms of Cooperation between Russia and Finland” was held within the framework of Russo-Finnish industrial forum at the Exhibition Center Lenexpo.

    On March 16, 2011, a round table discussion on “Bordering Regions: New Forms of Cooperation between Russia and Finland” was held within the framework of Russo-Finnish industrial forum at the Exhibition Center Lenexpo.

    The organizer of the round table was Collaborating Center for the preparation and implementation of inter-regional, cross-border, and international programs. Co-organizer was the St.Petersburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The event was assisted by St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations.

    The event was attended by Russian experts in the area of cross-border cooperation with Finland, including M.G. Smolkin, Head of the Northwest Territorial Directorate of Federal Agency for the Development of State Border of Russian Federation, G.M. Psaryov, Head of St.Petersburg office of JMA Program “South-Eastern Finland – Russia”, S.A. Balanyov, CEO of St.Petersburg Foundation for Business Development. Finnish side was represented by Pekka Koponen, CEO of Spinverse Oy, Vesa Sorasahi, Executive Director of Miktech Oy, Sami Heikkiniemi, Senior Business Advisor at Tekes (Finnish Funding Agency for New Technologies and Innovation).

    S.S. Nikolaev, Head of a department at St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations, attended the event as a moderator.
    The event addressed the following questions:
    * New mechanism of cross-border cooperation between St.Petersburg and South-Eastern Finland,
    * Priority areas for representatives of government and business from Finland in the north-western market of Russia,
    * Logistics and cross-border cooperation. Customs matters
    * Improving Russian-Finnish customs cooperation for the development of international business.

    The event aroused the great interest of Russian and Finnish participants of the Forum.
