On March 10, 2011, an exhibition “Armenia So Distant and So Close”, on the history and culture of Armenians in Russia, was opened at the State Museum of History of Religion (St.Petersburg, 14 Pochtamtskaya St.).

At the opening ceremony, the representatives of St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations, Vladimir Akopian, Consul General of Consulate General of the Republic of Armenia in Saint Petersburg, Fr Nshan (Petrosian), Armenian spiritual leader of St.Petersburg and Russian North-West, and the museum employees gave their speeches.

The Armenians appeared on the Neva riverbanks on the early days of building the city. Preserving their national, cultural, and religious backgrounds, the Armenian community always actively supports and promotes inter-confession dialogue aimed at preserving the St.Petersburg tradition of religious tolerance.

In 2010, the Armenian community in St.Petersburg celebrated its tercentenary and 280 years since the consecration of the church of St.Catherine in Nevskiy Prospekt, 40/42. The exhibition at the Museum of the History of Religion is devoted to those dates.
The exhibition “Armenia So Distant and So Close is open to the public until May 10, 2011.
