    The Forum “St.Petersburg–Barcelona – Partner Cities” Started Its Work

    October of 2010 marks 25 years of cooperation between St.Petersburg and Barcelona. The forum “St.Petersburg–Barcelona – Partner Cities 2010”, devoted to this date, started in Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain) on October 18, 2010. St.Petersburg delegation was headed by Yu.V. Kiselyova, Chairman of the Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of St.Petersburg.

    October of 2010 marks 25 years of cooperation between St.Petersburg and Barcelona. The forum “St.Petersburg–Barcelona – Partner Cities 2010”, devoted to this date, started in Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain) on October 18, 2010. St.Petersburg delegation was headed by Yu.V. Kiselyova, Chairman of the Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of St.Petersburg.

    The purpose of the forum was to identify the areas of cooperation invoking the mutual interest and to lay the foundations for joint projects in 2011, which is the year announced by the Governments of Russia and Spain as the Year of Russia in the Kingdom of Spain and the Year of Spain in Russia.

    Topics of the Forum: economic relations, urban planning and preservation of historic landscapes, culture, sports.

    Forum organizers: Committee for External Relations of St.Petersburg and the Department of External Relations of Barcelona.

    The program of the forum included: business meeting of entrepreneurs, a photo exhibition of the Russian Ethnographic Museum “Museum of Peoples in a Multi-Ethnic City”at the Museum of Ethnology, a master class of S.V. Stadler, Professor of St.Petersburg State Conservatoire and People's Artist of Russia, at the High School of Music of Catalonia; a concert of soloists vocalists and pupils of the music school at St.Petersburg State Conservatoire.

    The Forum was attended by the representatives of business circles of Barcelona and St.Petersburg. From St.Petersburg, there were 13 organizations representing the construction, energy-saving technologies, and environment-protection industry.
    St.Petersburg delegation was welcomed by Ignacio Cardeluz, a representative for public relations at the Government of Barcelona, who said: “Barcelona investments in Russia in 2009 amounted to nearly EUR 40 million and we see the great prospects of partnership projects with St.Petersburg.”

    Yu.E. Kiseleva welcomed the Forum participants on behalf of St.Petersburg Government and, in particular, said: “The anniversary date of twinning the cities of Barcelona and St.Petersburg was a good opportunity to intensify our dialogue and to fill the communication between the two cities with new formats of partnership. The next year we will be happy to receive a delegation of Barcelona in St.Petersburg”.
