    The First International Scientific Conference “St.Petersburg – ASEAN Countries: A Look into the Future”

    On September 23 and 24, 2010, St.Petersburg hosted the first international scientific conference “St.Petersburg – ASEAN Countries: A Look into the Future”, organized by St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations with the assistance of Faculty of Oriental Studies at St.Petersburg State University.

    On September 23 and 24, 2010, St.Petersburg hosted the first international scientific conference “St.Petersburg – ASEAN Countries: A Look into the Future”, organized by St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations with the assistance of Faculty of Oriental Studies at St.Petersburg State University.
    The conferences and the key event – a round table was attended by: I.M. Metelskiy, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg, Member of the Government of St.Petersburg; A.V. Prokhorenko, Chairman of St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations, Gwendolyn F. Garcia, Governor of Cebu Province (Philippines), representatives of governments and academical circles of Brunei, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand, ASEAN countries ambassadors in Moscow, honorary consuls in St.Petersburg.
    During the roundtable, a discussion was held on the issues of promoting the cooperation of St.Petersburg with friendly ASEAN cities in the most promising areas of multilateral cooperation.
    The conference started with welcoming speech of A.V. Prokhorenko, Member of St.Petersburg Government, Chairman of St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations; the participants read more than 15 reports on the ways, forms, and prospects of the dialogue between St.Petersburg and the friendly cities in this format.
    At the conference, I.M. Metelskiy, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg, had a conversation with Gwendolyn F. Garcia, Governor of Cebu Province, on intensifying the bilateral cooperation, implemented under the Agreement on Friendship and Cooperation between St.Petersburg and Cebu Province, during which they discussed concrete proposals on humanitarian, cultural and business-related bilateral ties.
    Gwendolyn F. Garcia invited I.M. Metelskiy to visit Cebu and participate in the Second Russian-Philippine Business Forum, scheduled for October 21 through 24, 2010. I.M. Metelskiy expressed his gratitude for the invitation and confirmed his willingness to lead a delegation of St.Petersburg to participate in this event.
