    A Program of Harmonizing the Intercultural, Inter-ethnic, and Inter-confessional Relations, and Upbringing the Culture of Tolerance in St.Petersburg for 2011-2015 Adopted

    On September 23, 2010, a program of harmonizing the intercultural, inter-ethnic, and interconfessional relations, and upbringing the culture of tolerance in St.Petersburg for 2011-2015 was considered and adopted at a session of St.Petersburg Government.

    On September 23, 2010, a program of harmonizing the intercultural, inter-ethnic, and interconfessional relations, and upbringing the culture of tolerance in St.Petersburg for 2011-2015 was considered and adopted at a session of St.Petersburg Government.
    The new program is a logical continuation of the current program “Tolerance”, while in many ways complementing it.
    The goal of the Programme adopted is improving the efforts of the executive bodies of St.Petersburg Government and the civil society of St.Petersburg concerning the formation and strengthening of the St.Petersburg tolerant urban environment based on the values of the multinational Russian society, nationwide civic identity, and the Petersburger social and cultural identity, and creating the conditions for successful social integration and cultural and linguistic adaptation of migrants.
    Achieving this goal is carried out through the following seven areas:
    • developing the culture of tolerance through the education system;
    • inter-confessional interaction and tolerance in St.Petersburg;
    • Promotion of intercultural interaction in St.Petersburg community;
    • Strengthening the values of tolerance through the interaction with the media community of St.Petersburg;
    • Creating the conditions for linguistic and socio-cultural integration of non-native students with the community of St.Petersburg. Assisting the adaptation of migrants in St.Petersburg;
    • Formation of intolerant attitude towards the ideas of xenophobia, racism, and migrant-phobia among the young people;
    • Organizational, scientific, and methodological support, monitoring of the implementation of the Program.
    In practical terms, the events of the new Program cover many areas including: developing the culture of tolerance by the modern educational tools and techniques; countering the propagation of xenophobic ideas via the Internet; developing the contemporary media products; implementing the children's cultural and educational programs for studying the history and culture of the city; establishing the language courses for migrants; publishing the modern teaching aids and multimedia simulators; running the social advertisement campaigns; organizing and running the cinema forum of anti-fascist films, and much more.
