On February 25, 2010 a solemn event devoted to the International Day of Mother Language was held in the Concert Hall of St.Petersburg State University "St.Petersburg House of Nationalities".
The initiator and organizer of the event were the St.Petersburg House of Nationalities and Bangladesh Center.
The event was attended by the representatives of vatious national and cultural associations and communities of St.Petersburg: Krasnoyarsk Community; Armenian National and Cultural Autonomy, the Association of National Cultural Associations of St.Petersburg "League of Nations", OS "Bashkortostan", Buryat National and Cultural Autonomy "Geser", Georgian National and Cultural Autonomy, the Society for Turkmen Culture in St.Petersburg "Mekan".
Participants of the event spoke about their native languages and alphabets, national writers and poets, and Sunday schools, and read poems and sang folk songs.
At the event, an exhibition of national literature was also hosted, which presented books in Armenian, Bengali, and Bashkir languages.
