    On February 27th , 2015 a meeting between Alexander Govorunov, Acting Governor of St. Petersburg and Nicos Anastasiades, President of the Republic of Cyprus was held

    The meeting was held within the framework of the official visit of the President of Cyprus to the Russian Federation.

    The meeting was arranged as part of the official visit of the President of Cyprus to the Russian Federation. The meeting was also attended by Stanislav Osadchy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia in Cyprus, Demetris Demetriou, Consul General of Cyprus, Oleg Markov,  Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg, and Evgeny Grigoriev, Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg.

    Issues of cooperation between St. Petersburg and Cyprus within the framework of the Russian-Cypriot relations were discussed at the meeting. Nicos Anastasiades promised to support the participation of business circles in the coming St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and in return invited St. Petersburg to participate in the program “Paphos 2017 European Capital of Culture”. Successful cooperation between St. Petersburg and Limassol was also mentioned. Chambers of commerce and industry, universities and schools of the two cities are united by friendly links. The Limassol City Council organizes summer vacations for children from one of the St. Petersburg orphanages. Cultural projects are implemented. A Memorandum of Understanding between the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg and the City Council of Limassol is planned to be signed on March 4th, 2015 in the presence of the Mayor of Limassol Andreas Christou.

    A joint project “Ideas of universities – to the practice of cities” also contributes to strengthening cooperation between St.Petersburg and Limassol. The project is aimed at encouraging and supporting innovative university solutions that contribute to resolving actual problems of municipal service and facilities. Nicos Anastasiades mentioned the importance of cooperation of St. Petersburg universities with the Cyprus University of Technology within the framework of the project and the high demand of the solutions in the area of alternative energy sources developed at the ITMO University (St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics).
