In St.Petersburg, III Youth Festival «The Culture of the World – for the Cultural Capital» is coming to the end, which is held in our city within the framework of the St.Petersburg Government program «Tolerance» in 2007.

On November 27, 2009, the city-wide final of this intellectual marathon was held on the stage of a new theater «Litsedei».

The teams of schools from six city districts struggled for victory in the Festival final: Grammar School № 41 represented Primorskiy District, № 70 – Petrogradskiy District, School № 211 – Central District, № 525 – Moskovskiy District, № 530 – Pushkinskiy District, № 571 – Nevskiy District of St.Petersburg. All of the teams once surpassed other contenders and won their first district-wide round, and then inter-district rounds.

The winners of the Festival become the teams of Grammar School № 41 (Primorskiy Dstrict) and Schools № 211 (Central District) and № 525 (Moskovskiy District). These children have proven to the jury that they are the best, and won the Grand Prix from the Festival partner – a trip to Riga on the spring vacations. During this trip, the pupils from St.Petersburg are going to meet with their peers who are also not indifferent to the problems of tolerance, to take a closer look at the culture of Latvia, and just to have fun.

Following a long tradition, Natalia A.Chadina, Director of the Festival, Director General of the International Center for the Arts, gave a with a welcome speech to the participants at the beginning of the ceremony. Viktor Solovyov, Art-Director of the theater «Litsedei», also wished good luck to the children.

While it is hard to say, was it due to the friendly air of the Festival or to the hospitable walls of the new theatre, but the children felt very confident and pleased the jury, their fans, and spectators by vivid performances and skilled answers on the contest questionnaire.

The final contest was made more sophisticated – the festival participants had to prepare «homework» for a contest on etiquette and intercultural communications. The home assignment was to perform a small sketch – a manual on etiquette without using any additional means of expression. The performances of all teams were full of good humour, virtuosity, and creative imagination, and many times raised a smile on the faces of the jury members, so serious before; and certainly did not leave anybody indifferent.

Moreover, the older pupils represented their own social projects and posters aimed at solving urgent social problems and promoting the culture of tolerance.

A special mood of the event was contributed by the vocal performances, as well as performances of creative dance company. Their joy and enthusiasm were energizing the participants and did not let the guests and fans to get bored during the breaks between the contests.

All the young participants of the Festival proved to be very worthy, which was not ignored. Grammar School № 70 and Schools № 530 and № 571 received the silver medals of the Festival, the attendance certificates, and the gifts from St.Petersburg Committee on External Relations.

At the end of the event, the Festival participants were greeted by the clowns of Theatre Litsedei: Leonid Leikin, Anwar Libabov and Vladimir Soloviev.
