    A Representative of St.Petersburg Visited Hamburg

    On November 16 through 17, 2009, D.A. Golubev, Chairman of St.Petersburg Committee on the Environment Usage, Environmental Protection, and Ecological Safety made a business visit to Hamburg (Germany).

    The representative of the city administration took part in the work of «Hamburg Conference on Urban Climate Issues», and held a series of negotiations on cooperation between partner cities of Hamburg and St.Petersburg in the area of environmental protection.

    In his greeting speech to the participants of the Conference, D.A. Golubev emphasized that today, the mega-cities are able to make a major contribution to solving the global environmental issues, through the development of the bilateral cooperation as well.

    During the visit, the Hamburg side presented the projects of environmental development of the city – «Green Capital City 2011» and «A Leap over the Elbe».

    D.A. Golubev also visited a garbage recycling plant belonging to the enterprise «Cleaning Complex of Hamburg». At the plant, a presentation was organized to show a waste incinerator and recycling systems for food waste, which produces biogas for using at thermal power plants.

    During the visit, D.A. Golubev a conversation with Dirk-Uwe Spengler, Head of the Section for Protection from Industrial Emissions at the Department of Urban Development and Environment of Hamburg, for the sake of sharing the experiences of disaster management, against the oil spills. A particular interest was shown by the sides related to the exchange of experience in producing the dedicated vessels for cleaning the water reservoirs, as well as the removal of the spills under the viaducts.

    On November 17, a conversation of D.A. Golubev and Anja Haiduck, Senator for Urban Development and Environment of Hamburg, took place in the building of Hamburg Senate. The sides exchanged opinions on prospects for cooperation of the partner cities in the area of environmental protection.
