    St.Petersburg was visited by the Organizing Committee of "Journey for Peace"

    On October 4 through 5, 2009 in St.Petersburg, a delegation of the Organizing Committee of "Journey for Peace" visited the Northern Capital of Russia to participate in the events devoted to the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and establishing the diplomatic relations between our countries.

    On October 4 through 5, 2009 in St.Petersburg, a delegation of the Organizing Committee of "Journey for Peace" visited the Northern Capital of Russia to participate in the events devoted to the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and establishing the diplomatic relations between our countries.

    The delegation was headed by Mr. Zhang Deguang, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of "Journey for Peace" and Chairman of the China Foundation for International Issues (formerly, Ambassador of China in Russia, the first SCO Secretary-General). The delegation included diplomats, employees of the Ministry of Culture of China, and well-known Chinese artists.

    These events take place in Moscow and St.Petersburg within the framework of strengthening humanitarian ties and are intended to promote cultural interaction.
    The organizers of the St.Petersburg part are: the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Consulate General of China in St.Petersburg, Committee for External Relations of St.Petersburg.

    On October 5, a ceremonial event was held at Lepnoy (Plastered) Hall of Smolny involving the representatives of the Chinese delegation, A.Yu. Manilova, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg, A.V. Prokhorenko, Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St.Petersburg, A.N. Gubankova, Chairman of the Committee for Culture, Tian Erlun, Consul General of China in St.Petersburg, S. Stadler, Rector of St.Petersburg Conservatoire. Among those present, there were representatives of management and faculty of St.Petersburg Conservatoire, the leadership of St.Petersburg State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E. Repin at the Fine Arts Academy of Russia, St.Petersburg artists, students.

    During the event, an Agreement on Cooperation was signed between the St.Petersburg State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E. Repin at the Fine Arts Academy of Russia and the organizational committee of "Journey for Peace".

    A.Yu. Manilova, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg, handed to Zhang Deguang, Head the Chinese delegation, the Diploma of St.Petersburg Governor for his significant contribution to the development of formal, business and humanitarian ties between St.Petersburg and the People's Republic of China.

    The Delegation of China bestowed on the cultural institutions of St.Petersburg 20 musical instruments (violin, cello), computers, and accessories for painting.

    Also, the delegation members visited the St.Petersburg State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E. Repin, where the St.Petersburg and Chinese artists jointly created a picture.
