    Day of Stavanger in St.Petersburg

    On September 17, 2009, St.Petersburg hosted the Day of Stavanger (Norway). The delegation of Stavanger was headed by Mr Leif Johan Sevland, City Mayor.

    On September 17, 2009, St.Petersburg hosted the Day of Stavanger (Norway). The delegation of Stavanger was headed by Mr Leif Johan Sevland, City Mayor.

    The event was organized with the assistance of St.Petersburg Government within the framework of the Agreement on Cooperation between St.Petersburg and Stavanger, signed during the visit of St.Petersburg delegation in Norway on November 3, 2008.

    Within the confines of the Day, on September 16, the Admiral Cornelius Cruys Foundation (Norway) held a seminar “Cultural Ties between St.Petersburg and Stavanger in the Historical Perspective”. The seminar was attended by Mr Sevland, Mayor of Stavanger, A.N. Panov, Dean of the Diplomatic Academy at Foreirn Affairs Ministry of Russia, representatives of St.Petersburg and Norwegian NGOs, the Consulate General of Norway, and the Administration of St. Petersburg.

    On September 17, 2009, the Stavanger delegation met at Smolny with A.Yu. Manilova, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg, and the priority areas of the cooperation between our cities were discussed. As a result of the meeting, the participants signed a protocol.

    The meetings with the representatives of the branch committees of St.Petersburg were also held, concerning the cooperation in the areas of culture, power industry, innovations, tolerance, and cultural diversity.

    The Stavanger delegation visited the State Russian Museum, where they were presented with the project “Virtual Russian Museum”.

    The results of the meetings have proven the mutual interest in further development of cooperation. After the negotiations, the participants expressed their intention to develop a Joint Action Plan on 2010–2012.
