    Lord Mayor of London City Visited St.Petersburg

    On September 10 through 13, 2009, Ian Luder, Lord Mayor of the City of London, visited St.Petersburg, accompanied by a delegation of British businessmen.

    The delegation included 15 CEOs of commercial enterprises that operate in the key sectors of financial services market: banks, insurance companies, legal advice, and accountance.

    During the visit, the Lord Mayor met with Yu.V. Molchanov, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg. Mr Luder made speeches at the round tables and seminars devoted to the investments into projects of transport infrastructure, public-private partnership, mechanisms for low-carbon economy, and the possibilities of raising capital for regional companies.

    The Lord Mayor also met with the students of St.Petersburg high schools and laid a wreath at the Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad.

    The Lord Mayor of London is the head of the Corporation of London, and during his trips abroad, he acts as an international envoy of the City of London, which is the center of financial services and business in Britain.

    The elective post of the Lord Mayor of the City of London was established in 1189. The Lord Mayor is re-elected annually; his job is not paid. His mission is to keep the dialogue with the companies operating in the City, and to help the City Corporation advise the Government on optimal operation of the financial services sector.
