    Delegation of Manchester City Council Visited St.Petersburg

    St.Petersburg was visited by the delegation of Manchester headed by Virginia Tandy, Director on Arts for the City Council, on June 9 through 11, 2009

    St.Petersburg was visited by the delegation of Manchester headed by Virginia Tandy, Director on Arts for the City Council, on June 9 through 11, 2009.

    Within the confines of the visit, the meetings were held with A.N. Gubankov, Chairman of the Committee for Culture; I.O. Lonskiy, Deputy Chairman of St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations; the representatives of St.Petersburg organizations working in the area of contemporary art: Center for Modern Art named after S. Kuryokhin, the «Pro Arte» foundation, Loft Project «Etazhi», Central Exhibition Hall «Manege»; with the administration of State Museum of St.Petersburg History, State Hermitage, State Russian Museum, Mariinsky Theatre, St.Petersburg State Conservatoire, Faculty of Sociology at St.Petersburg State University.

    During the meetings, the prospects of cooperation of St.Petersburg and Manchester were discussed, concerning the areas of culture and education, in anticipation of the 50th anniversary of the partnership between the two cities in 2012.

    Out of the recent events, the following can be mentioned:
    - Days of St.Petersburg in Manchester (July 2007), during which a series of cultural events and official meetings took pace, and the Protocol was signed as a result of negotiations on cooperation between the two cities in 2007–2012.
    - Visiting St.Petersburg by the delegation of Society for Friendship «Manchester–St.Petersburg» (April 2008–2009.)
