    St. Petersburg – international organisations

    The following international organisations are represented in St. Petersburg: CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, representative offices of international funds and unions, UN organisations. In the city, there are branches of international cultural institutions: German Cultural Center Goethe-Institute, the French Institute, The Finnish Institute, Netherlands Institute in Saint Petersburg (NIP), the Danish Cultural Institute, the Israeli Cultural Center, and the Italian Cultural Institute. Many foreign cities and regions have their offices in St. Petersburg. The chambers of commerce and industry represented in the city, and foreign business centers facilitated the expansion of economic cooperation.

    One of the effective directions for the development of international and foreign economic relations of St. Petersburg is the participation of its representatives in the work of international regional organisations. St. Petersburg is the member of the Organization of the World Heritage Cities (OWHC), Union of the Baltic Cities (UBS), Organization of major cities of the Baltic Sea "Baltic metropoles", Organization of sub-regional cooperation of the Baltic Sea States, the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), World Health Organization Project "Healthy Cities", European Cities Against Drugs (ECAD). The city cooperates with intergovernmental organisations: The Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) and the Nordic Council of Ministers, as well as Forum of the European seacoast regions, Baltic Development Forum, the Baltic Sea Chambers of Commerce Association (BCCA).

    Currently, project activities on cross-border cooperation programs under the European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI) Programs for 2007-2013 are successfully completing, namely: "South-East Finland – Russia" (25 projects) and "Estonia – Latvia – Russia" (9 projects). Today, representatives of St. Petersburg also take an active part in the preparation of new programs of cross-border cooperation between Russia and the EU for 2014-2020 - "South-East Finland – Russia", "Estonia – Russia" and "Latvia – Russia".
