    Cooperation between St. Petersburg and Poland was discussed by Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Vladimir Kirillov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland to Russia Włodzimierz Marchinyak

    The meeting took place on June 4 in Smolny on the eve of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The conversation was also attended by the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in St. Petersburg Andrzej Khodkevich and the leaders of the relevant executive bodies of state power of the city - Chairman of the Education Committee Zhanna Vorobyeva and Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg Andrei Khlutkov.

    During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of cooperation between St. Petersburg and the Republic of Poland.

    The systematic development of interaction between St. Petersburg and the Polish partner cities of Gdansk and Krakow was noted. The delegations of these cities regularly take part in the international congress "St. Petersburg and the Slavic World." Between cities maintained a constant dialogue. So, on May 26-27, 2019, a delegation of the City Council of Krakow at the level of members of the City Council took part in events dedicated to St. Petersburg Day.

    In addition, the parties discussed the activities of well-known Poles who lived at different times in St. Petersburg as a separate bright page in the common history. The meeting participants discussed issues perpetuating the memory of prominent residents of St. Petersburg of Polish descent, who made a significant contribution to the culture of our city.

    It was noted that Polish public organizations are currently operating in St. Petersburg: the Cultural and Educational Society ''Polonia'' and the Congress of Poles in St. Petersburg.

    Much attention was paid to the study of the Polish language in St. Petersburg and the Russian language in Poland.

    The Chairperson of the Education Committee, Zhanna Vorobyeva, announced the expansion of opportunities for studying the Polish language in St. Petersburg, taking into account the addition of Adam Mickiewicz Secondary School No. 216 to No. 206 Secondary School and the creation of a structural unit on its basis for all who wish to further study the Polish language and culture. The study of the Polish language, as well as extracurricular classes on the study of the history and culture of Poland will continue at the base of school number 206.

    As noted, in turn, by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland to Russia, Włodzimierz Marchiako, in Poland, after a short recession, interest in studying the Russian language by Polish schoolchildren and students is also actively recovering.

    Following the meeting, the parties agreed to develop cooperation in the field of culture and education, to facilitate the establishment of direct contacts between St. Petersburg and Polish schools and the holding of joint events.
